Even as a child I enjoyed business. I was always playing store and as I grew up I was never without a part time job or two. I even had my own business teaching aquatic courses.
My first experience with real estate was when I purchased my first home in Barrie, Ontario. I was thrilled to own a home but a year later I began a new job out of town. I didn’t want to sell this home so I decided to rent it. With the help of an agent I was able to rent out my house. Eventually, those tenants moved on and I experienced some new tenants that were not as desirable, went bankrupt, had their hydro cut off and I was not paid rent for a number of months. Luckily, I was able to get those people out and found new tenants who have been renting for over 10 years and they are lovely.
When I heard about a real estate investing seminar being offered by Scott McGillivary of HGTV’s Income Property I jumped at the opportunity to go to the event. This is when my eyes were opened to the potential of real estate investments and the possibilities of creating sustainable wealth.
I then purchased another property, a duplex in a small northern town. I was able to pay for the property and find a private lender to help me complete the renovations. The reno was completed and I was able to return all the capital and interest to the lender on time. After this I began to purchase more properties and help other people find properties to invest in that will help them to build their wealth.

I have shown my partner the benefits of real estate investing too and he now sees how it can enhance his lifestyle. I was able to help him purchase properties and invest in some private lending.

My nieces have become the brightest lights in my life and a driving force to my ‘why’. Real estate is providing me with the freedom to say yes to spending time with them when they want to hang out with me. I am thrilled to be an active role in their lives, the fun Aunt.
